Keith Incident Update

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is responding to a grass fire near Keith in the Upper South East of South Australia.

Approximately 24 CFS volunteers on six fire trucks, supported by a Bulk Water Carrier and a Farm Fire Unit, have been responded to the incident. Volunteers are working to contain the fire and protect nearby agricultural crops.

The fire is burning in grassland and has spread into roadside vegetation along the Dukes Highway. The fire has crossed both the highway and the adjacent railway line, with firefighters working to prevent further spread east of the railway line and protect a standing barley crop.

Significant smoke is impacting the Dukes Highway, with reports of very poor visibility. Motorists are urged to avoid the area where possible and exercise extreme caution if travelling as the highway remains open.

Emergency services are working on and around roads in the area. Road conditions and access may change at short notice. Continue to monitor road closures at traffic.sa.gov.au and follow the directions of emergency service personnel.
